folktales: oral and written tradition of folk tales
was long thought that they were first told by centuries and only then down, literally and figuratively
but the reality is much more complex.. there appears to have been a dynamic exchange between oral and written sources. sometimes made a fairytale first part of the oral tradition, was then written down, then read and read, and was then passed on again and then again to be captured on paper.
different versions of folk tales
it is therefore easy to understand that there are several versions were often in circulation of the same tale. a good example is the fairy tale of Little Red Riding Hood. perrault has a version of Little Red Riding Hood, but the brothers Grimm also had one. and the two versions differ essentially from each other in several ways. as Little Red Riding Hood is not rescued from the belly of the wolf in perrault but the grimms though.
