The amount recorded for accrued expenses should be properly measured. For example, a company pays its employees bi-weekly, and the first paycheck of the new-year includes salaries and wages for one week in the current year and one week in the prior year. In this case the company would record a journal entry at the end of the year to accrue half of the weekly payroll amount.
