Spot observations. This technique, likened to the taking of still photographs (Rogoff,1978), was used to obtain information on children’s locations, activities, and coparticipants.The data, totaling 30 observations per child, were gathered by local personnel who in eachcommunity were trained in this and other types of naturalistic observation.
