Die Autoren:
José López-Rey (1905-1991) studierte Kunstgeschichte in seiner Heimatstadt Madrid sowie in Florenz, Brüssel, Paris und Wien. Er lehrte an der Universität Madrid, bis er 1939 durch die politischen Umwälzungen gezwungen war, Spanien zu verlassen und sich in den USA eine neue Existenz aufzubauen. Am Institute of Fine Arts in New York reüssierte López-Rey als renommierter Professor und Forscher, und für seine Verdienste als aktives Mitglied der Foundation for Art Research wurde ihm von der Southern Methodist University in Dallas der Ehrendoktortitel verliehen. Als Autor von über hundert wissenschaftlichen Publikationen und zehn Büchern über die spanische Malerei hat sich López-Rey insbesondere mit seinen Veröffentlichungen über Goya einen Namen gemacht. Mit seinen Publikationen zu Velázquez wurde er zu einem Experten mit weltweitem Ruf.
Odile Delenda war nach dem Abschluss der École du Louvre dort zunächst als Professorin tätig und später, bis 2007, Sonderbeauftragte der Gemäldesammlung des Musée du Louvre. Sie hat an zahlreichen Ausstellungen über Alte Meister mitgewirkt. Seit 1990 arbeitet sie für das Wildenstein Institute in Paris und widmet sich dort ihren Forschungen zur spanischen Kunst des Goldenen Zeitalters. Delenda ist u.a. Autorin von Vélasquez, peintre religieux (1993) und des ersten kritischen Werkverzeichnisses von Francisco de Zurbarán und seiner Schule (2009/10), das unter der Schirmherrschaft des Wildenstein Institute erschien.
