Viele Details dieses handwerklichen Meisterwerks lassen vermuten, dass es von einem Schiffsbauer stammt: das edle Kirschholz in Antikoptik und nicht zuletzt die schiffsbautypischen Schrauben aus Messing. Aus der Hochzeit des Hellenismus stammt diese Ikone der Antike. Der Einfluss griechischer Kultur hatte seinen Höhepunkt erreicht, als diese Plastik entstand. 1820 auf der südwestlichen Kykladeninsel Milos wiederentdeckt, gehört die Statue noch heute zu den größten Kunstschätzen des Louvre.
