In this section we will review a few sensors which arecommonly used for monitoring different human activities.Sensors are fundamental elements of the whole monitoringsystem and should measure the physiological parametersof interest accurately and reliably over a long duration. The rapid development of microelectronics, micromechanics, integrated optics and other related technologies has enabledthe development of various kinds of smart sensors to senseand measure data more efficiently and faster, with lowerenergy consumption and less processing resources.Body temperature is one of the common physiologicalparameters measured by wearable sensors for human activitymonitoring. The variation in temperature measured on the skincan give an indication of what is happening with the person’sbody temperature and can be used to detect the symptoms ofmedical stress that might lead to various health conditions, including stroke, heart attacks and shock. The measurementof body temperature is extremely useful for determining thephysiological condition as well as for other things such asactivity classification [20], [21], or even harvesting energyfrom body heat [22].The next most common physiological parameter is the heartrate of the person under monitoring. Heart rate is a preciselyregulated variable, which plays a critical role in health anddisease of human. There are many methods available tomeasure heart rate of a person; Photoplethysmography (PPG)based technology [23], [24], sound based [25], based onchanges on brightness of person’s face [26], and so on.
