in the absence of fermentable glucosa or lactose ,some microorganisms are capable of using citrate as a carbon for their energy . this ability depends of the presence of citrate permease that facilitates the transport of cirate in the cell. citrate is the first major intermediate in the crebs cycle and is produced by condensation of active acetyl with oxaloacetic acid. citrate is acted on by the enzym citrate ,which produced oxaloacetid acid and acetate.

Kemampuan ini tergantung dari kehadiran permease sitrat yang memfasilitasi transportasi cirate dalam sel. sitrat adalah menengah besar pertama dalam siklus crebs dan diproduksi oleh kondensasi asetil aktif dengan asam oksaloasetat. sitrat bertindak oleh enzim sitrat, yang menghasilkan asam oxaloacetid dan asetat.
