Ta có thể thấy rõ thị trường EU có vai trò rất quan trọng đối với kim ngạch xuất khẩu Việt Nam, nhưng Việt Nam lại chiếm một thị phần khá nhỏ bé trên thị trường EU. Theo thống kê của Bộ công thương, qua hình 3.3 ta có thể thấy EU là thị trường xuất khẩu chính và tiềm năng của TCMN nước ta. Trung bình các năm, thị trường EU chiếm 43,9% giá trị xuất khẩu của Việt Nam. Trong năm 2009, có 15 quốc gia được coi là thị trường xuất khẩu quan trọng thì EU có tới 7 nước, chiếm 42% gấp 4 lần giá trị xuất khẩu sang Mỹ hay Nhật Bản. Tuy nhiên, đối với EU thì TCMN Việt Nam đang chiếm một thị phần tương đối nhỏ (5,4%), thể hiện EU là một thị trường tiềm năng đối với TCMN Việt Nam. Trong EU, thị trường mà TCMN nước ta xuất sang nhiều nhất có các nước như Đức, Pháp, Hà Lan, Anh, Bỉ, Italia, Tây Ban Nha, sau đó mới đến các nước khác như Bồ Đào Nha, Phần Lan…
