Penelitian ini menggunakan metode studi kasus. yang dinyatakan oleh Stake dalam Denzin dan Lincoln (2009, hlm. 299),”...sebagai sebuah bentuk penelitian, studi kasus ditentukan oleh minat pada kasus-kasus individual bukan ditentukan oleh metode-metode penelitian yang digunakan.”
Untuk dapat mencapai pemahaman yang mendalam terhadap fenomena yang sedang diteliti, digunakan pendekatan kualitatif, yang didefinisikan oleh Satori dan Komariah (2012, hlm. 24) sebagai berikut, ”Penelitian kualitatif adalah suatu pendekatan penelitian yang mengungkap situasi sosial tertentu dengan mendeskripsikan kenyataan secara benar, dibentuk oleh kata-kata berdasarkan teknik pengumpulan dan analisis data yang relevan yang diperoleh dari situasi alamiah.”
Partisipan penelitian ini adalah mahasiswa/i Prodi Pendidikan Sosiologi FPIPS UPI yang sudah atau sedang mengontrak Mata Kuliah Belajar dan Pembelajaran Sosiologi. Teknik pengumpulan data yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah : a) Observasi; b) Interview (Wawancara); dan Studi Dokumentasi. Teknik Pengolahan dan Analisis data kualitatif, menggunakan pendapat Miles dan Huberman (2007, hlm. 16-21) yang terdiri dari tiga alur kegiatan yang terjadi secara bersamaan yaitu : reduksi data, penyajian data, penarikan kesimpulan / verifikasi.

To be able to reach a deep understanding towards the phenomenon being studied, used a qualitative approach, defined by Satori and Komariah (2012, p. 24) as follows, "qualitative Research is an approach to research that reveals the particular social situation with describe reality correctly, formed by the words based on the collection and analysis of relevant data obtained from the natural situation."Participants in this research is the sociology of Education, namely mahasiswa/i FPIPS UPI already or are contracted Courses to learn and Study sociology. Data collection techniques used in this research are: a) Observation; b) Interview (interview); and study the documentation. Processing technique and analysis of qualitative data, using the opinion of Miles and Huberman (2007, pp. 16-21), which consists of three strands of activities that happen simultaneously: the reduction of the data, the presentation of data, withdrawals/verification conclusion.
