Summary of Chairman’s Message on StewardshipLast year, we discussed the importance of mindfulness in developing intelligence. It’s key in developing consciousness in life, which is the mother of all capital. This year, we will discuss stewardship. Ancient Chinese believes that life is nothing but experience of relationship, or relationships. If we can understand, harmonize and integrate our relationship with nature, human and own self, then we will find peace, joy, oneness and freedom. We play many and diverse roles in the context of relationships with nature, society, human and self.If you feel stressed out in these relationships, there is a lack of harmony. If we can’t accept and embrace our own self then there is a lack of harmony within our own self. To harmonise these relationships, we have to think about different roles that we need to steward and take responsibility for. Our life is our responsibility and nobody can take this responsibility from us and for us. We have to take this responsibility for our own self. One of the most important stewardship (most impactful) is emotion. We need to understand, learn and steward our emotion because we are driven by emotion. If we can manage our emotion better, we will have a better EQ. Most of our emotions are generated by our own flaws created and conditioned by our environment. We’re not born this way. Managing relationship involves understanding and stewarding our thoughts generated by negative emotions that can create delusion, stress and unnecessary fear. We plan to bring courses about dealing and stewarding emotion into IMC so we all can learn.Harmony doesn’t mean no argument. Conflict doesn’t mean a lack of harmony. Conflict creates an opportunity for harmony. When we resolve conflict for the greater good of all, that’s when we create harmony.
We all have roles and relationships within the organisation, community and environment we serve. Are we stewarding our own lives? One key primary indicator of not stewarding our own lives is blaming and complaining. When we choose to blame and complain, we are not taking responsibility and we are out of control of our emotions, relationships. Stewarding our own lives is a life-long journey and can only be done through relationship.
We all need to contemplate and think about the myth of stewardship; will it make you a better, happier person and more free?
Have a good Diamond Day!
