It is essential to check a software product meticulously after it has been developed. Accordingly, it is reasonable to ask why there is no testing phase after the product has beenimplemented.Unfortunately, checking a software product once it is ready to be delivered to the clientis far too late. For instance, if there is a fault in the specifi cation document, this fault willhave been carried forward into the design and implementation. There are times in the processwhen testing is carried out almost to the total exclusion of other activities. This occurs towardthe end of each phase (verification) and is especially true before the product is handedover to the client (validation). Although there are times when testing predominates, thereshould never be times when no testing is being performed. If testing is treated as a separatetesting phase, then there is a very real danger that testing will not be carried out constantlythroughout every phase of the product development and maintenance process.
