Dù lượng khách tham quan bị hạn chế gắt gao nhằm bảo vệ môi trường, nhưng mỗi năm có đến 14.000 người tìm đến nơi này để in dấu chân trên 53km đường từ thượng nguồn hồ Te Anau hướng về các cầu treo, cầu cạn để đến các hồ nước óng ánh, các đỉnh núi cao ngất và thu vào ống kính hình ảnh ngoạn mục của thung lũng hình thành vào thời kỷ băng hà cuối cùng hàng loạt đỉnh núi hòa quyện cùng mây.

Milford Trail còn là con đường dẫn đến vịnh hẹp Milford Sound, một trong những điểm du lịch hút khách nhất New Zealand với 550.000 lượt khách/năm bất chấp đi lại khó khăn.

Từ 100 năm trước, giới du lịch đã truyền tai nhau cuộc viễn du đi bộ đường dài trên tuyến đường Milford Trail huyền thoại xuyên qua các vịnh hẹp, núi cao vực sâu với cảnh quan tựa thiên đường trải dài suốt tuyến.

Cho đến tận hôm nay Milford Trail vẫn không ngừng cuốn hút đôi chân lữ khách năm châu.

Thành phố Te Anau bên bờ hồ cùng tên là cửa ngõ vào công viên quốc gia Fiordland và con đường huyền thoại Milford Trail. Vì vậy, các dịch vụ du lịch rất phát triển. Những hoạt động như cưỡi ngựa, tham quan hang động đom đóm, trải nghiệm cuộc sống đêm giữa không gian hoang dã... sẽ khiến bạn không thấy chán.

Thông thường, bạn cần bốn ngày để khám phá Milford Trail suốt từ bắc đến nam. Trong đó, hai ngày đầu là khó khăn nhất.
