After years of shifty stays in the cities of European and Russian Wassily Kandinsky in Murnau, a small town in the foothills, found his peace and perseverance. Here he settled with his partner, the Munich painter Gabriele Münter, who accompanied him from now on in the crucial years of breakthrough with the approval and criticism. Kandinsky's pictures of this Murnauer phase build up mostly from massive blocks of bright, applied in polka dot colors, is facing strong light-dark and cold - warm contrasts.
