من المبادئ الأساسية التي تنادي بها قواعد الأمم المتحدة النموذجية الدنيا لإدارة شؤون الأحداث المخالفين للقانون (قواعد بكين) التي إعتمدتها الجمعية العامة بقرارها رقم 22/40 المؤرخ في 29 تشرين الثاني 1985 هي: المحاكمة العادلة والإنسانية للأحداث حفاظاً على سلامتهم،، مبدأ التناسب بين الفعل والإجراء، فصل الأحداث عن البالغين في المراكز، إحترام مصلحة الطفل الفضلى في جميع الإجراءات ، الهدف من قضاء الأحداث هو رعاية مصلحة الحدث الفضلى
