Exercise initiated during pregnancy was not effective in decreasing the prenatal or postnatal prevalence of LBP, PGP orLBPP. In contrast, prenatal exercise had a large effect on decreasing the severity of LBP, PGP and LBPP during pregnancy; one study supported this finding for the postpartum period, although others showed no association. Further research is needed in order to identify the best exercise modalities, as well as the best period during pregnancy to initiate an exercise inter-vention, in order to optimise the treatment of maternal LBP, PGP and LBPP.
