1. animal : 39 crossbred sows parity 1 to 8 were used and 70% of these animals were from parity 1 to 3. 20 sows were randomly allotted for E.coli bacterin vaccination while another 19 sows served as control. They raised in the same management condition in Chonburi, 80 km. east of Bangkok.
2. products : E.coli bacterin , 5 ml/sow
3. method : the experiment was carried out during March and September 1984. Sows in the vaccinated group were given two 5 ml. doses of the vaccine intramuscularly behind the ear. The first dose at 2 to 17 days prior to mating and the second at 2 to 19 days before anticipated farrowing. They were fed nonmedicated feed. The control animals were with medicated feed with neomycin sulphate 200 ppm. During 2 week prior to and post farrowing as normal practice in this farm. Data were collected as general characteristic of sow and piglet, incidence of MMA in sows, morbidity and mortality of neonatal piglet diarrhea. Student test employed to determine the difference between means while proportion test was used to calculate the difference between rate and proportion.
