งานวิจัยนี้มีจุดประสงค์เพื่อศึกษาความเป็นไปได้ของการลงทุน และวิเคราะห์ผลตอบแทนทางการเงินสำหรับเกษตรกรผู้ปลูกยางพาราและปาล์มน้ำมัน เพื่อเป็นเครื่องมือที่ช่วยในการตัดสินใจลงทุน โดยใช้ข้อมูลในการศึกษาจากเกษตรกรในอำเภอพนมทวน จังหวัดกาญจนบุรี มีขนาดพื้นที่ 20 ไร่ และกำหนดช่วงการลงทุนทำสวนยางพาราและปาล์มน้ำมันเท่ากับ 20 ปี รวมถึงวิเคราะห์ความเสี่ยงของการลงทุนเมื่อมีการเปลี่ยนแปลงราคาขายของยางพาราและปาล์มน้ำมัน โดยในงานวิจัยนี้ได้คำนวณดัชนีทางการเงิน 4 ชนิด ได้แก่ มูลค่าปัจจุบันสุทธิ (Net Present Value: NPV) อัตราส่วนผลตอบแทนของโครงการ (Internal Rate of Return: IRR) อัตราส่วนมูลค่าปัจจุบันของผลตอบแทนต่อการลงทุน (Benefit Cost Ratio : BCR) และระยะเวลาคืนทุน (Payback Period: PB) โดยแบ่งเป็น 3 กรณี คือ กรณีที่ 1 การปลูกยางพารา กรณีที่ 2 การปลูกปาล์มน้ำมัน และกรณีที่ 3 การเปรียบเทียบระหว่างการปลูกยางพาราและปาล์มน้ำมัน รวมถึงพิจารณาการปลูกพืชแซมสวนยางพาราและปาล์มน้ำมันเพื่อสร้างรายได้และลดความเสี่ยงให้แก่เกษตรกรในระหว่างการรอเก็บเกี่ยวผลผลิต
