การฟัง หมายถึง การรับรู้เรื่องราวต่าง ๆ จากแหล่งของเสียง ซึ่งอาจจะรับรู้ผ่านผู้พูดโดยตรง
หรือรับรู้ผ่านอุปกรณ์บันทึกเสียงแบบต่าง ๆ โดยแหล่งเสียงจะส่งผ่านประสาทสัมผัสทางหูเข้ามาแล้วผู้ฟังเกิดการรับรู้ความหมายของเสียงที่ได้ยิน จากนั้นนำความหมายที่ได้รับรู้ไปพิจารณาทำความเข้าใจวัตถุประสงค์ของผู้พูด ประเมินค่าสารที่ได้ฟัง และสามารถนำสารที่ได้จากการฟังไปปฏิบัติให้เกิดประโยชน์ในชีวิตประจำวันของตนได้
