Suatu proses Belajar mengajar, tidak akan terlepas dari perumusan tujuan. Henry Ellington (Uno, 2008) mengemukakan bahwa, “Tujuan pembelajaran adalah pernyataan yang diharapkan dapat dicapai sebagai hasil belajar.”
Dalam pelaksanaan pembelajaran, ada sejumlah prinsip yang harus diperhatikan, yang pada akhirnya, mengacu pada empat pilar pendidikan menurut Unesco, yaitu : (1) Learning to know (belajar mengetahui); (2) Learning to do (belajar melakukan sesuatu); (3) Learning to be (belajar menjadi diri sendiri); (4) Learning to live together (belajar hidup bersama).
