Participation can be encourage by:
• Analyzing training needs and providing more or less structure to training situations, depending on trainee preferences
• Clarifying trainer and trainee expunctions
• Allowing trainees opportunities to learn at their own pace and in their own ways
• Discussing and agreeing on behavingoural norms and expectations prior to the commencement of training
• Using a variety of training methodologies and activities to cater for diversity within the training group
• Initiating participants focused planning for training sessions and outcomes so that trainees has input into the structure of training and feel ownership of and a measure of control over decision-making and learning processes.
• Where appropriate utilize cooperative group learning activities or perhaps pairing of older, more experienced trainees with younger ones, so that learning can occur through modelling
