แม้นักวิเคราะห์มองว่าภาวะเงินฝืดอาจไม่รุนแรงพอที่ทำให้เกิดภาวะถดถอยทางเศรษฐกิจครั้งรุนแรง แต่การแก้เงินฝืดนั้นยากกว่าการแก้เงินเฟ้อ ซึ่งในปัจจุบันจะแก้ปัญหาด้วยการกระตุ้นให้เกิดภาวะเงินเฟ้อเข้ามาแทนที่อย่างเดียวเท่านั้น
