Taken together, these studies demonstrate the importanceof cooling when using an outcome relevant to patients.Furthermore, they emphasise that normalisation of dermaltemperature is not the sole mechanism mediating the effectsof CWT, and further investigation of this mechanism mightyield therapeutic targets for novel burns treatments. Finally,the studies demonstrate that developing a model of consistentburn depth, consistent cooling temperature, delay andduration, will be important in future experimental work.The burn depth in such a model should be mid-dermal,representing the depth of burn most likely to benefit fromintervention in humans.3.
