Негативные результаты своего присоединения к ВТО уже отмечает Украина, ставшая 152-м членом этой организации в мае 2008 года. Некоторые условия по сельскому хозяйству, на которых страна присоединилась к ВТО. Либерализация условий торговли способствовала тому, что продовольственный рынок Украины начал активно заполняться импортом. В июне декабре 2008 года рост импорта продовольственной продукции составил в целом 11%. Увеличение импорта происходило в основном за счет импортных поставок мяса, доля которого составила 43% в структуре прироста. По сравнению с аналогичным периодом 2007 года, объемы поставок мяса выросли в 6.5 раза. Наблюдается также увеличение импорта зерна, сахара, являющихся традиционными товарами Украины.
