Reinhard Stangl (*1950) stammt aus Leipzig, wuchs in Ost-Berlin auf und studierte an der Hochschule der Bildenden Künste in Dresden Malerei. Kurz nach seinem Abschluss wurde der systemkritische junge Künstler 1980 aus der DDR ausgewiesen und lebt seitdem in Berlin-Kreuzberg. Die Stadt Berlin, aber auch ausgedehnte Reisen, unter anderem in Dschungelgebiete Südamerikas, sind ihm Inspiration für Arbeiten, die mit intensiver Leuchtkraft den Betrachter fesseln.

Die Kunst Reinhard Stangls ist von ganz besonderer Art. Inspiration für seine Bildmotive ist ein kurzer Augenblick. Aus der Realität des Augenblicks wird Vision. Seine Bilder sind figurativ, erzählerisch und doch reduziert, abstrakt. Das Atmosphärische, Magische des jeweiligen Moments atmet in seinen ästhetischen Kompositionen. Es sind Momente funkelnder Energie.

Die "art" charakterisierte Stangls Bilder als "bis zum Rahmen angefüllt mit reinster Lust an der Malerei, überschäumender Farbe und einer Lebens- und Daseinsfreude, wie sie überhaupt nur auf Leinwand zu bannen ist".

Stangl war Gastprofessor an der Hochschule für Bildende Künste in Berlin und erhielt zahlreiche Auszeichnungen. Seine Werke sind in der Berlinischen Galerie vertreten und seine Ausstellungstätigkeit reicht weit über die Grenzen Deutschlands hinaus.
