Today we will be learning about Elementary Number Theory. This is the branch of mathematics in which elementary methods like arithmetic are used to solve equations with integer or rational solutions.

Number theory is used to study the nature and properties of prime numbers, to analyse the different permutations and combinations of things in counting and in the field of combinatorics. Combinatorics is a fast-growing area of modern mathematics with wide applications in computer science, communications, transportation, genetics, experimental design, scheduling and so on.

So let us start our lesson right away by looking at prime numbers!
