Nghiên cứu thăm dò, khám phá dùng nghiên cứu định tính để hiệu chỉnh, chọn lọc lại các biến quan sát dùng đo lường khái niệm nghiên cứu. Đây là bước nghiên cứu sơ bộ để sàng lọc lại các biến đưa vào mô hình nghiên cứu, kiểm tra các thang đo sử dụng, tham khảo các ý kiến từ phía lãnh đạo ngân hàng các chuyên gia về vấn đề nghiên cứu, qua đó xây dựng các thang đo đưa vào mô hình nghiên cứu và thiết lập bảng câu hỏi.
Trước tiên, tác giả sẽ chuẩn bị một số câu hỏi để thảo luận và trao đổi với lãnh đạo tại một số trường đại học tại Nghệ An với nội dung tập trung về vấn đề quản trị nguồn nhân lực. Chọn lọc và hiệu chỉnh các câu hỏi dựa trên ý kiến đóng góp của chuyên gia. Phỏng vấn thử năm giảng viên ngẫu nhiên để kiểm tra mức độ rõ ràng của bảng câu hỏi, qua đó ghi nhận ý kiến ban đầu của họ về độ hoàn thiện của bảng câu hỏi.
