Kỹ năng mềm không chỉ cần thiết cho cuộc sống mà còn là tiêu chí mà các nhà tuyển dụng rất quan tâm bởi chúng ảnh hưởng lớn đến việc người lao động có hoà nhập được với môi trường làm việc và đạt hiệu suất công việc cao hay không. Đặc biệt với đội ngũ lao động tương lai như học sinh, sinh viên còn phải quan tâm đến việc rèn luyện kỹ năng để tạo thành thói quen ngay khi còn trẻ. Tuy nhiên, ngay từ trên giảng đường đại học, không phải sinh viên nào cũng được trang bị tốt các kỹ năng thiết yếu này. Theo điều tra của Bộ Lao Động – Thương Binh và Xã Hội, trong tổng số các sinh viên tốt nghiệp hàng năm, hơn 13% phải được đào tạo lại hoặc bổ sung kỹ năng, gần 40% phải được kèm cặp lại tại nơi làm việc và 41% cần thời gian làm quen với công việc. Thiết nghĩ, việc tự trang bị cho bản thân kỹ năng mềm là điều vô cùng cần thiết, đặc biệt là trong thời kỳ hội nhập.
